Check the admission requirements to ensure that you are eligible to start the Master of Bioscience Engineering: Sustainable Urban Bioscience Engineering.
You will enroll at the University of Antwerp as the coordinating university for this Master’s programme. Depending on your degree and the country it is issued in, you will have to follow a different application procedure.
Students with a bachelor degree in bioscience engineering, issued in Belgium
Students with a bachelor degree in bioscience engineering (bachelor in de bio-ingenieurswetenschappen), issued by an institution recognized by the Flemish government, can go straight through to enrolment at the University of Antwerp. Find all information about which steps to take here.
Students with an academic degree in bioscience engineering (bachelier bioingénieur), issued in Brussels or Wallonia can submit their admission application via the Helpdesk of the University of Antwerp (Submit a ticket -> Study Programme Bioscience Engineering). Deadline for application is in the beginning of October, but it is strongly recommended to submit your application earlier.
Please upload the following documents to support your application:
- a color copy of your identity card or passport
- your curriculum vitae
- a motivation letter
- a color copy of your diploma of higher education (applicants that are enrolled in their final year should, instead of the degree, submit proof that they are expected to complete the programme at the end of the current academic year)
- a list of the attended courses and their description and results
Students with another academic degree, issued in Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg
Students with an academic degree in another field, issued in Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg can submit their admission application via the Helpdesks (University of Antwerp): see here for the Dutch version and here for the English version (Submit a ticket -> Study Programme Bioscience Engineering). All other EEA nationals and non-EEA nationals
All other students can submit their admission application via the online tool Mobility Online. The application procedure at the University of Antwerp is free of charge (please do not deposit any money because it cannot be returned). However, take into account the deadlines and that the legalisation and translation of documents for step 3 takes time and can be expensive.
Application deadlines:
- non-EEA nationals: 1 March
- EEA nationals: 1 June
The admission application procedure consists of several steps:
Step 1: Apply online through Mobility Online
The online application consists of a number of steps. After entering your personal details, selecting the Master of Bioscience Engineering: Sustainable Urban Bioscience Engineering as the programme in which you wish to enrol and the academic year in which you will enrol, you will be asked to generate a user account to access the application in a secure way.
After that, you can upload electronic documents to support your application. No legislation is necessary at this point. The following minimum documents are required:
- a color copy of a valid passport or identity card
- a curriculum vitae
- a motivation letter
- a color copy of an original degree certificate with a translation in Dutch, French, German or English if the degree is drawn up in another language (applicants that are enrolled in their final year should, instead of the degree, submit a copy of an original and signed letter from their college or university confirming that they are expected to complete the programme at the end of the current academic year)
- a copy of the original academic transcripts and course descriptions with a translation in Dutch, French, German or English if they are drawn up in another language
- a filled-in application form
- an English language certificate indicating the level

Please make note of the deadlines!
Step 2: Screening on content and level
If your file is complete and approved by the Admission Office, the Board of Admission of the Master’s programme will screen your educational history and your motivation to determine your access to the programme. This process may take up to 6 weeks after you uploaded all required data and documents (holidays and closing days are not included in the 6 week-period). If the Board of Admission gives a positive recommendation, you can proceed with the following part of the application.
Step 3: Screening of hard copy documents on authenticity
The registrar’s office will screen the submitted hard copies of your documents and verify the authenticity of the degree. This process may take up to 4 weeks.
Step 4: Result
The combined results of the evaluation of all parts will determine if your application will be accepted.
- If your application is accepted, you will receive a Letter of Acceptance and more information about the enrolment.
- If your application is rejected, you will be informed about the reason of the rejection.
